Scars of War

One day the war will be over

but no-one will have won.

The cost will be counted and rebuilding begun

The day the lawyers work is done then at last we may be able to have fun.

Then at last my child and i

might even get to see the sun\

To play, to talk, to weep, to laugh

to catch up on good times in the past.

But however much we might enjoy

the future is a victim of the past

For the scars of war

are not measured in blood and gore

But deeper down and harder to heal

in the heart where we feel

A shadow on the lung, pain in the head

carried around a chunk of lead

Always there dimming our spark

blood spilled in war leaves stains so dark

It is not the soldier or the strong who defy

but the children who suffer from the lies all their lives

until they die.
